As an artist, I believe art does not purely serve as an aesthetic form, but must engage an intended meaning. I aim to provide a clear starting point through my work, an entry from which the audience can begin to interpret in their own way.
My work centers around myself as an individual, not solely as an act of self-documentation, but a method of inquiry, using my own observations, and internal conflicts as material. Despite this grounding in personal insight, I seek to have it reinterpreted and recontextualised by my audience. The personal becomes a starting point through which broader questions can be explored.
For me, expressing an idea feels like a brushstroke; clear and decisive. Over the years, I have developed a personal painting language defined by expressive black brushstrokes in contrast with fine, delicate lines and clean, minimalistic backgrounds. These fine lines act as a blueprint of the scene, explaining the motion and the mechanism.
